Q1: Julian, other defeat for Multan Sultan. What do you say about this match?
Julian Wood: There’s been a pattern emerging over the last three games where we haven’t gotten it right. We won the toss, decided to bat, and thought it was a 200-wicket. However, after the powerplay, we were looking at 160. We lost wickets from overs 8 to 14, which didn’t help. Maybe we need to attack more in the powerplay to get a better start and build momentum.
Q2: What was the real reason for Multan Sultan’s continuous failure in PSL 10? Coaching or team selection?
Julian Wood: I think it was a bit of both. After losing the first game, we struggled to recover. In franchise cricket, games come thick and fast, and we haven’t found our rhythm. Sometimes, one team has a bad season, and unfortunately, it’s been us this year.
Q3: Past few years, Multan Sultan played very well. What do you think is the difference this season compared to last few years?
Julian Wood: Losing Johnson Charles at the top of the order was a massive loss for us. We’ve lacked that impetus up top, which gets momentum quickly. The chopping and changing of the team hasn’t helped, and we’ve struggled to find the right winning formula.
Q4: In the last two seasons, Multan Sultan were very difficult to beat on their home ground. What went wrong this time?
Julian Wood: Confidence is a big factor. The group’s in a good place, but we’re not happy with the results. We’ve been hammering on about being positive, but players are human beings, and confidence affects performance. Maybe the lack of consistency in selection has given doubts to players.
Q5: Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans who are disappointed in this season’s performance?
Julian Wood: We appreciate the fans massively for coming out. Sorry we haven’t delivered like you’re used to, but it happens. Maybe it’s time to relook at a few things. We’re looking forward to the last game and hopefully giving them something to shout about.
Q6: Is a complete rebuilding needed for the next season? Should young players be given a chance?
Julian Wood: We’ve given young players like Faisal, Shahid, and Amir opportunities. Exposure to elite cricket is crucial. The management and owner are looking forward, and hopefully, we can kick on from here.
Q7: What mistake did Multan Sultan make in this PSL?
Julian Wood: Losing the first game after scoring 230-235 was a big blow. We’ve been poor in the last three games, scoring 314 runs for the loss of 30 wickets. Consistency hasn’t been great throughout. It’s a learning curve, and we’ll adapt and move forward for the future.
